Quilt Completed!

Hello dear readers!

Well, I did good and finished the quilt yesterday (as planned!!)  It goes out on Monday to Canada and will hopefully make it in time for Christmas.  Check it

And here it is all packed up!

I’m so happy with it, and it was really hard to part with it actually.

But, I although I had a lot of fun making it, quilting just isn’t something I’m super into.  BUT!   That’s ok!  A whole lot of good fell out of the process of making my first quilt:

1) I learned how to cut precisely

2) I bought a 1/4″ edgestitching foot and a quiting ruler which will come in super handy

3) I got LOTS of practice making 1/4″ seams!

4) I got LOTS of practice fell stitching the binding (Seriously, how much to I <3 fell stitching!)

5) I had tonnes of fun making something my mom will just love

I think if I *were* to make another quilt, it’ll be entirely hand done and I’ll take like a year to do it.  I didn’t like wrestling the quilt through the machine to quilt it – it felt too difficult.  However, I loved hand stitching the binding…so I think if I did it traditionally, I might enjoy it more.  I shall let this idea incubate for a while…

Being in the Christmas spirit, I made a super cute ornament for my BurdaStyle ornament exchange!  I got the tutorial from Retro Mama and you can get it and the free pattern here!

It’s a cute little partridge with a little plume and everything!!

It was so fun to make, and the pattern even includes a baby!  TOO CUTE!

I might make a few more for the house…

But, a few updates!

I’m currently putting buttons on my BurdaStyle skirt after which I shall photograph it with my BurdaStyle sleeveless top I worked on during my sewing retreat!

My next project is Sewaholic’s Cambie dress! I’m really excited about this one, as everyone I know who has made one loves it.  This is my Christmas dress and I’m making it out of a nice voile…so stay tuned for that.

I’m also planning some blog upgrades during the Christmas holidays…I think I found a theme with better functionality than this one, so if you see things in transit, that’s why.

How is your Christmas prep going?

Remember (especially nowadays) to Relax and Enjoy!

  2. Hey, I missed this one! Very impressed with your completion of the Christmas quilt – well and truly in time to post North…a Christmas Cambie sounds perfect…and a blog refashion? Do tell….

PS – thanks again for the awards…it took me a while to think about how/who to pass them on to…but a great exercise in thinking about just what it is that particularly inspires me

    • Yeah, I was eyeing off another theme that has a bit more functionality and a better visual appeal, in my opinion…will play around over Christmas break. I’m also designing some new ‘logos’, which I find super fun…just feel like a bit of a new year makeover, ya know? ;)
You’re very welcome, you’ve inspired me a lot with your beautiful sewing projects and your fabulous attitude. Keep it up, we all inspire each other and that’s so great.
